Phoebe McGarry

Filmmaker/ Cinematographer/ Director

Specialty in Horror, Drama, Thriller

Hello

My name is Phoebe McGarry

I am a PNW-based Cinematographer with extensive self-taught and university-taught knowledge and experience with film sets, cameras, and equipment, also lens, lighting, and advanced editing and color grading programs like DaVinci Resolve, Premier Pro, Photoshop, etc.

I strive to use the tool of my cinematography to communicate the deeper meaning of my films. Working to be known for captivating, intentional, and purposeful imagery, meant to emotionally capture the viewer and add a beautiful visual component to the story.  Focusing on elements like color and tone, intentionally matching the performance and story being told. Aside from the goal of creating beautiful imagery, I work towards deliberate and constructive framing and shot style, to further help the narration and non-verbal implications.  My film style is meant to amplify the impression a storyline leaves on its viewers, adding a visual aspect of beauty to what once just read across a page. With intentional and intriguing cinematic shots and color schemes, I create by bringing imagination to life in a powerful, meaningful way with the lens. Specializing in specific film styles, adhering to the storyline, and varying from clean and smooth shot and frame style to handheld shots, I practice a wide variety of techniques in my films.

The Start Of My Passion For Film

I graduated from Central Washington University, with a film production degree, specializing in Cinematography. Having taken a special interest in color, shot composition, style, and framing, as well as the creative mind it takes to create magic from behind the lens, I have developed my own film style and niche. I've spent my childhood creating behind the lens, making silly commercials, documenting the farm life, and creating my own narrative visuals. My interest continued to grow and prosper as I self-taught and made use of IMovie and my little flip video camera. Film became my passion and I developed a sense of belonging behind the lens, I finally felt like I was good at something and I invested in my hobby. The way my films made my family and I feel is what continued to grow my passion. I loved the way I could bring a story to life, with my own creative eye. With a camera, the world was in the palm of my hand, I felt good at something for once. My interest grew and I learned more on my own, growing my portfolio and experience before leaving my small island home to attend college and receive professional credentials in Film, hoping to bring that experience to the real Film Industry. Now as I settle down to work on creating and networking in my hometown in the PNW, I couldn't see myself anywhere else but in LA in the next few years. I am striving to meet new people, and continue creating and working on my personal film style before making the move to LA.

When I brainstorm a film, I think in images. I think in visuals that compliment a storyline. When I hear a quote, a conversation, a piece of a story, imagery fills my head. When I create, I strive to create encapsulating shots, visuals that make you think, shots that truly make you feel something.
